We’ve all been there.. Waiting with toddlers. And if they are awake. 99.9% of the time waiting without anything for them to do is NOT EASY. Keeping a toddler entertained can be one of the hardest things to do.. Especially when you both are getting really impatient. Unexpected waiting is the WORST. Like when you are waiting to get your oil changed, or when you are waiting for the doctor at the doctor’s office. (Which never seems to fail EVERY TIME we go).
I’m hoping that some of these ideas can help you with your VERY IMPATIENT toddler in the times that we need them to be the most patient.
Let’s break this down in a couple different points so that we can try to get something that will help most mommies!
Keeping them busy when it’s just mommy and toddler! (In room at doctor’s office..etc)
- Body Counting Game (Older toddlers that can count)
-- How you play, have your toddler or the kids response to such request..
Examples:
- Blink your eyes 3 times
- Pat your head 5 times
- Clap your hands 1 time then jump 2 times
- How many hands are in the room?
- Turn around 2 times.
- Open and shut your mouth 4 times
- Stand on one foot for 6 seconds
- How many fingers are in the room?
- Tug your left ear 8 times, then tug your right ear 2 times
- Touch each finger to your thumbs and count the touches
- Shrug your shoulders 9 times.
- March in place 14 times
- Jumping Jacks
- Play Simon Says:
- Find the Body Part
-- How to play.. Have them find all kinds of body parts. Such as the ones that are listed. Some are more difficult, so that’s what will keep them busy ( by guessing where these parts can be found)
EX: ankle, ankle bone, elbow, thigh, calf, eyebrow, eyelash, cheekbone, chin, earlobe, nostril, wrist, elbow, funny bone, knee cap, nape, cuticle, biceps, triceps, jaw, jawbone, joint, knuckle
Keeping them busy with other people around!
